The article deals with the normative and legal aspects of the providing of personnel security in the United States of America. The documents, directives, manuals defining policies and procedures of the personnel security system functioning was the subject of the. The purpose of the personnel security program is to ensure that individuals assigned to national security positions remain reliable and the one who can be trusted. Considerable attention is paid to the role and place of polygraph survey in the conducting of personnel security investigations, in particular to establish the credibility of derogatory information, to assist in making decisions on appointment to national security positions, to provide access to closed information.
