Levels of addressee in the communication between the author and the reader of literary text

Abstract

The author of the article allocates the concept of four levels of the competence of addressees of literary texts. The first three levels are the level of Child, the level of Hero, the level of Author. The fourth level is Higher Addressee. These levels are the part of metatext. The concurrence of a level, which is expected by the reader, with a level offered by the author promotes empathy. The discrepancy destroys understanding.
