Abstract

The research is dedicated to the phenomenon of love and gender aspects of romantic beliefs. The phenomenon of love in psychology is analyzed. The different psychological schools that have been studied the topic of love are considered. The foreign and domestic scientists specialized in classification of love styles are presented. The review of studies on gender specificity in love experiences is carried out. The gender issues in researches are outlined and gender stereotypes are defined.

The relation between gender identities and of love on sample group of 120 male and female persons was analyzed. In the research the following methods were used: «Sex Roles Inventory» (by S. Bem) and «Love Beliefs Scale» (D. Sprecher, B. Metts).

After all love convictions of all participants of empirical survey study were identified, one may state that «Idealization» of a partner and relationships and belief «Love finds a way» are inherent to most individuals in each group. This reveals that idealization in love relationships and idea that being in love they is able to overcome every difficulties are characteristic to most peoples. «Love at first sight» is typical to most masculine and tend androgyny men and masculine women. «My one and only» belief is characteristic to most feminine women. Masculine men and women have no such belief.

Based on the results of survey of love beliefs in gender aspect the conclusion about directly dependency between gender identity and love beliefs of an individual was drawn, namely, that masculine and androgyny of an individual evidences to his (her) tendency to «Love at first sight», and femininity — to «One and Only» belief.
