Abstract

In this article we aimed to popularize a new for theUkrainepsychotherapy approach — cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). In theUkraineresults of epidemiological research showed that prevalence of non-psychotic mental disorders among the population of theUkraineis about 17 %. Depression is the most common among these disorders. About 30 % of somatic hospital patients have mental disorders’ component into their diseases.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy (ÑBT) is wide spread in the developed foreign countries and is very effective treatment of neurosis, anxiety, depression, anorexia, personal disorders etc. In CBT history three «waves» were marked out. First was connected with behavioral research and practice, social learning theory etc; second — with cognitive revolution. The third wave includes many different approaches, they emphasize the role of emotions, meta-cognitions, meditation practice.

Cognitive therapy focuses on the our appraisals of events and situations. People with mental disorders have cognitive distortions in information processing, distortions evoke certain feelings (e.g. anxiety, fear) and then result in maladaptive behavior, which is maintained vicious cycles. The treatment process in CBT consists from patient’s psycoeducation and motivation, cognitive and behavioral techniques, home tasks. It is significantly individualized approach.

In 2014 the first high-educated CBT- therapists graduated from the Ukrainian Institute of Cognitive-behavioral Therapy (UICBT) after three years training in Lviv-Orford program. UICBT invites professionals for further training, and cognitive — behavioral therapy surely will contribute in mental health and psychological services improving in the Ukraine.
