Abstract

The article describes the process of formation and the process of training foreign language competence of future seafarers, taking into account psychological and pedagogical features of these processes. The criterion for determining the characteristics of communication and socializing of a seafarer on board was related to the human factor in these processes.

In the marine industry we treat communication as a channel of information to perform duties.

Communication of seafarers is generally regulated by international organization (IMO). The purpose of this regulation is to minimize the human factor in the process of professional communication of seafares. For this purpose, standard phrases of international maritime communications of seafarers are introduced, which are mandatory for use by all seafarers in international fleet.

Communication of seafarers should take into account the human factor to prevent risks at sea. In international crews sailors should be able to predict the impact of crosscultural differences in the process of transmission and perception.

Communication of seafarers assumes the ability to choose the right strategic decisions to ensure the safety of navigation.

In the marine industry, we interpret communication in the form of interpersonal communication activities as socializing when there is an exchange of not only information but also reactions, mood, status, settings.

Socializing of seafarers is temporal in nature, which foresees the ability to set short-term friendly relations etc.

Failures in the communication process, and in the process of socializing are risks to maritime safety and personal health.

Psychological support is seen as means of optimizing process of teaching of «maritime English» in maritime educational establishments
