Abstract

The author proposed to consider the style of resolving the problem as an aspect of the life-way which integrates both quantitative and qualitative properties of the personality. «Style» is defined as a dynamic system of methods and techniques of the identity, analysis and overcoming of life’s difficulties, that gives the possibility to the subject to solve internal and external conflicts efficiently by means of personal resources. The author considered four styles of solving problems: active, constructivereflective, destructive-reflective and avoiding. It was described that the reflective style of the problem situation`s resolving can be presented in two forms: constructive and destructive. The relation between the degree of formedness of the style characteristics and the level of development of cognitive and metacognitive strategies to solve problems has been proven. It is found that subjects with high levels of expression of the constructive-reflective style have a high level of cognitive and metacognitive strategies of problems` solving. Thus, subjects with high levels of expression of the destructive-reflective style have a low level of development of metacognitive strategies, which are responsible for the regulation of the subjects` intellectual activity. Individuals with high destructive-reflective tendencies exhibit an inclination to focus on the demands and evaluations of strangers, but their highly critical assessment to their own possibilities downgrades the effectivity of the self-control and the lability of the actions and experiences, obstructs the analysis of their emotional evaluations and feelings as benchmarks and clues in the searching of solutions.
