Abstract

This article analyzes a number of difficulties and determinants of personality that affect the integration of foreign students in the multicultural environment of the higher educational institutions in Ukraine which differ from those that typical for the students that do not alter their country of residence at admission to a higher educational institution. It was determined that the interaction in international groups and successful entry into new and unfamiliar environment are conditioned by the level of tolerance (ethnic, social as personality traits, uncertainty), ethnic identity (i«normal», hyper / hypoidentity), social distance (from acceptance to complete rejection), stereotypical perceptions. The positive ethnic identity sets the optimal balance of tolerance to own and other ethnic groups. In turn, tolerance involves expression of such personality traits as empathy, self acceptance and acceptance of others, altruism, peacefulness, the desire for dialogue and so on. The problems of selection and usage of the diagnostic tools were characterized for international students. Personality determinants of integration of foreign students were analyzed by taking into consideration the gender component and length of stay in a multicultural environment (1 group — 1 year, 2 group — 1 to 2 years, 3 group — more than 2 years). Definition of the level of manifestation of personal determinants and their usage in the learning process will help to facilitate the integration of foreign students in a multicultural environment.
